A couple guys hunting down the road from my house killed a pair of does today. They called and me and Billy just happened to be able to cut loose from what we were working on at that minute. Both deer were about 120 lbs. each. We made the initial cuts around each leg joint and up each leg. Then split it down the belly. All knifes were put away after this. So now I have two fresh hides that are about as near to perfect as I can make them concerning cuts and holes and such.

I got that hide grained and acidified over the last few days. I left it in the buck for 3 days then took it out to grain. It went pretty well, grain came off in long strips. Rinsed it in the pond for 2 days and I just got through membraning and acidifying it (in the sleet and snow). When I threw it over my frame to dry I measured it. It is 3' across and 6 & 1/2' long. The other hide I got is just a little bit bigger than this one.

You guys have it easy for tanning right now it is snowing, last week is was -20 here in the Tetons. Lately I tan mostly antelope and furs. As soon as the weather warms up (sometime in May) I have a bunch of hides to work.
