I don't have a clue what to charge for shaving a beaver hide. Never done it, but $5 is more than fair for fleshing. Seems like you're doing the tannery's work for them, I think most just flesh and stretch to send to the tannery. If'n I was going into tanning a lot of beaver hides, I think I'd want all those power tools, they sure ain't easy to work with compared to most furs. What psi is your washer?

great catches pa.our trapping season last to the end of the month as well. i'm gonna try a new spot this weekend.
i made a couple of sets the other day and caught a coon. i cheated myself out of two beavers. a few people had been fishing in the same creek i'm trapping, so i waited till almost dark, to make my sets. when i made my last set and got back to my truck at dark i realize i left my hammer and went back to get it. when i got to it by the bank two beavers were swimming close to my sets and slashed off when they seen me. should have left the hammer and got it the next day. i did one of those i should of had a v-8 head slaps good looking pelt joanne. i'm sure you'll make a good tan job out of it

I hope you have one for yourself one day. Certainly seem like a deserving young man. Nothing in the world like it. I am sure you would really enjoy using it.. especially on the creatures like coon and otter. Wish I had an otter to tan someday. that one in your trapping pics is very cool looking. never have worked on any of those yet. Those are really awesome! I'm sure the washer would work great on them. Keep making the right critters are beautiful. Keep making choices like you are already, two bit, and one day you will have your own washer to use on them. I used to do all my skins by hand too. A real chore but hard work didn't kill me. I did get large upper arms using a beam and bar. didn't really like that fact.. uck!
There are products like commercial degreasers available. I still haven't ordered any but even with the use of the washers a small amount of degreaser would really make the skins better. From what I understand they are REALLY helpful. A framed degreased and dried skin..-wahinkte.. yer all set! Some saftee acid and EZ 100, tanning oils and I would use a staking beam and a steel band.. strap to pull a tanned, oiled skin and bingo.. nice and soft.. also spells a lot of work! I'm not going to kid ya ALL this stufff..just plain stinks and is a lot of work.. but keeps me out of trouble!
