thankee cody and cooner. naw i didn't build this gun, bought it USED at a gun store. the guy who owned the store knows me and told me the gun was lost in pawn.he let me put it on lay a way fer damn near a year. i've had it fer about 8 years.i just got it to shoot true.i would shoot at 75 yards one shot would be bulls eye the next wouldn't even tear paper.i've tried everthing. i finally settled on the patches to be the problem.i tried thin patches and they would burn up in the barrel.i would need a hammer to load thick patches and it still shot crazy.so i tried a old timey remedy, putting wasp nest between the patch and powder charge and bingo. if i do my part i can put 5 pills in a circle the size of my hand at 75 yards

I have a old T/C hawkins I got at a pawn shop for next to nothing and re worked the stock and inlaid alot in it and its a54 too but when I shoot it there is nearly no recoil half of my 50 . The barrel wasnt took care of so I thought it was rusted out to where it didnt get enough presure but dont know .What yall think?

Cody, does she shoot center? If she is throwing the lead where yer lookin' I wouldn't be concerned about it.
What kind of groups are ya gettin'?

i agree with cooner.if she shoots plum be greatful.my gun kicks hard because of the stock design.the butt is real narrow and the check piece is high on the stock.almost awkward to sight down on.my sharps is a 54 caliber, and it don't kick near as hard.

The stock is shaped good I geuss that could be most of it I noticed that that Hatfield was mighty straight .The old bead sight is big as a dime so my groups aint as tight as I'd like but I'd say they was tight as they goin to be with that front sight They tight enough for 75 yrds and under after that its just covers too much .I geuss I'm just blessed with a easy shooter

i had ole mack put new sights on that hatfield.the original sites were bad very bad.the rear sight was real wide and the front sight was narrow.i got good eyes and could not see the front sight for nothing.i blooded two deer when i first got the gun.it liked to had killed me to lose two deer.but if you can't see the sights you can't make a clean shot.i put the gun up fer a long time not wanting to use it fer nothing but rendezvoues.mack put them sites on it and at the south western in 2005 i was shooting pop sickle sticks with it at 15 yards.that told me it could shoot if i did my part.alot of cussing, crying, praying and just throwing a snot slinging fit went into finding the secrete to make the damn thing shoot.it finally paid off this year when i made meet with it.waugh!
