Did you use a pattern for your elk coat or was it figured out as you go? Thanks, Jon

Pattern? , haha, I should use one maybe, what i was going for with the elk coat, and even my wool capote similar to redthunders is what has been found in Alfred Millers paintings of the mountain men. A few researchers have some documents about the fort and trading posts hiring labor for sewing and making clothing. These people, sometimes native women, sometimes tailors from back east, knew how to make clothing and they were really good. Like a tailor made shirt today they wouldn't use a pattern , they would just simply take your measurements and apply the standard rules and make it. I tried to do the same, just take my measurements but hope for the best before I cut up good brain tan. I had to start using patterns , but after making a few things I don't need a pattern for most stuff,, but then again I don't mind a little flaw, it adds character, haha.

Thanks for the info, I agree with the character of it. I dont like tailor fit skins, just dosnt seem right you know. Great job on your coat and the capote. I made my capote froma pattern, but I know if it ever wears out, I will just use it for a quick outline and change what I dont like. Jon
