I dyed the lambskin with Rit and am thinking of making some kind of bag or something with the stuff gathered here.

I decided to cut the cute little lamb into moccasin material.. hopefully they'll be cute, cuddly and warm..( hey, Barney's not a bad idea ).. I have some darker dyed purple that I could cut a simple dinosoar shape out of ..maybe I could just stick it on the part in the middle with superglue or something.. totally tacky mocc's. I plan to employ the longer furry 'material' from the legs of this lamb onto the cuff area of the moccasins for some style mostly and looks. Right now I'm finding that the tri-pointed awl that works really well for doing some hand sewing of the lace is making some larger holes that what the lace is, so guess I need to cut some lace from a different portion of the scrap heavy weight buckskin I cut the main portion out of.. geez.. well anyway nice to make something that will be used rather than just hung on a wall to admire like a trophy alone.. ;-) I would guess that using braintanned smoked buckskin to make purple dyed moc's could seem almost sinful to some.. so I like crossing the line and pushing issues.. just to see what I can get away with.. whatever floats ones boat pretty much but I do think the little 'indian' goddess here will appreciate them. At least she won't associate them too much with dead dear and dead newborn lamb if they're dyed purple and sporting barneys on each of them.. lol. See where the stitches are just not 'right'? These moc's were inspired by Chuck, btw.. I very much like his baby moccs that he posted.. real cute. So back to cutting some more lace and see how that works out.

Thx, I'm getting there, slowly.. I have to spend some time at the school with our youngest. She really has been attached to my hip for the last 9 years and so I have to spend time in 'her' school environment.. nothing at all against homeschooling really I just can't seem to do it as well as the public school.. just have to keep them from wanting to shake the snot out of my kids, tweaking their ears, and well they'd probably like to tape at least one of them's mouths shut! I breathe a sigh of relief sometimes when they've all headed out the door! anyway I have made a little more progress but not much more! i'M REALLY SLOW. These moc fronts really look a lot neater with the stitches I added with some thinly cut buckskin lace to kind of smooth out a lot of that uneveness.. Far as the colors go I'm impressed myself.. yeah kind of a incredible thing to go to all the trouble to braintan and then dye it some modern color but really I got all these kids that really are not impressed with anything that reminds them remotely of dead animals.. speaking of that I took my scraps to my daughters 3rd grade class with me yesterday and well I was showing the little kids all crowded around me the moccasins I had in the making an that little lambs head and part of it's neck were in the bag and I pulled them out and saw this poor little girls eyes widen and gulp like! LOL.. it was kinda funny for sure! I'm sure it was a moment of incredible reality! OMG! Well anyway.. fun to actually make something that is usefull and practical. I think that it might be a great way to make stuff that kids could logically wear and not look too incredibly filthy either.. this braintan buckskin attracts dirt like no other material I don't think!

I spoke to the counselor yesterday for a time by myself at our daughter's elementary..(he's into historical reenacting himself, so future sales possibility, too.. cool) anyway he mentioned and I agree that to a very large point you need to school your own and well you're their first and maybe best teacher anyway, so buy attending the school and spending a couple hrs it is in a way teaching her or him that you are encouraging them to learn from others. I was a little ticked off by this young teachers brashness the other day and gave her what I thought was a quick reprimand myself.. she startled both my daughter and I by coming up to us and reaching for her hand from behind and almost shaking her arm before my daughter and I really knew it was even her doing that to try to shake her hand to get her to promise to get her butt to school every day.. well I saw my girl be forced to tears with all these kids around her.. it was a curiosity to them for her and I to show up so they were all crowded around her, 3rd grade.. well geez.. I told her off to the side that I didn't care much for that hard ass approach!.. just like to me tell it like it is.. was.. whatever so I've had to look past my own ego a bit and compromise and I hope my daughter realizes that even though I got angry a bit with the teach that everyone makes mistakes and well things can get way blown out of proportion by not using your head and forgiveness is a good idea guess in case you yourself make a mistake.. you would want others to treat you with the same 'grace'. Life and living just ain't easy so.. anyway it's been a lot of angst for me with my kid being so adamant about not attending school.. geez.. she missed 53 days last year and around 40 this year and well it's mostly because I haven't passed her around like a bad cold and she vies for my attention.. I spend a heck of a lot of time doing everything but giving it to her! so can't hardly blame her for getting rowdy now! So this project's for the 'italian princess', lol.

I couldn't help but to remember this thread, it's been a long time back when Joanne dyed this buckskin purple. I admit I had a laugh, only because of my serious view of history. But , here's something I should post . Never say never. The Count was well mounted, and, as I have before observed, was a bold and graceful rider. He was fond, too, of caracoling his horse, and dashing about in the buoyancy of youthful spirits. His dress was a gay Indian hunting frock of dressed deer skin, setting well to the shape, dyed of a beautiful purple, and fancifully embroidered with silks of various colors; as if it had been the work of some Indian beauty, to decorate a favorite chief. With this he wore leathern pantaloons and moccasons, a foraging cap, and a double-barrelled gun slung by a bandoleer athwart his back: so that he was quite a picturesque figure as he managed gracefully his spirited steed.
This is from Washington Irving's "Tour of the Prairies" , about his party of men coming to Oklahoma Territory for the first time. The guy dressed in that purple coat is a young Swiss Count , 22 years of age and was interested in America enough to join the party. Irving had intention of writing a book , others joined for the sake of just knowing what opportunities were in the new land. It could have been the Osage who made this Frock coat for the Count, they were equipped in St.Louis before leaving, but it's a guess at best. But , never say anyone in the west didn't have purple buckskin.
