Billy and myself are fixing to start building us a couple pirogues(pronounced pee-row). We have been talking about doing this for a long time and I finally had enough and said let's do it. I ordered a kit from Uncle John's Thursday and it's supposed to be here Monday. The kit only comes with the stem and stern pieces and the ribs. So it's not like we are just gonna be putting together a ready to go kit. The only reason for buying the kit is we don't have all the correct measurements on the stem and stern pieces. Be patient and bare with us cause there will be lots of pics and comments during the builds. here's a link to the kit: www.unclejohns.com/boat/default.htma pirogue:

Got any work done on your pirogue Grizz? I'll post some pictures of the UJ pirogue I'm building now. It's 15' 6 by 25" and gonna be partly decked. I've also got a little play boat in the build stage. Economy tells me to use polyester from walley world for glassing these boats. It doesn't out last epoxy but is repairable easily. Both will need to be varnished with a UV prohibiting varnish that is a must. Epoxy breaks down with prolonged UV exposure and polyester is not completely water proof. I think it would be bigger than big to paddle into one of your rendezvous. What do you think?

haven't got started yet Oz. would be cool to paddle in to a vous. show us yer build, feel free to start a build log if ya want.
i'm with ya on the poly but I want this one to last for a long time since it'll be my first one to build. maybe later I'll try the poly. I had the same thoughts about it being easily repairable and cheaper to boot. I want this one to be around for my grandkids children though.

Hey Griz, Are you going to partially deck your as well, or leave it open? I was looking at the website photos of ones that are built, nice that you can change to plans to make it kind of custom. Jon

i'll answer for grizz. since this is a joint effort. we are waiting on funds for the rest of the supplies. money is always the problem with any thing we do. i've been trying to pimp ole grizz out but he ain't going for it.we hope to have at least one built before it gets too damn hot.
