I'm making one for zack to match his daddy's... a father and son set I'll try to get some better pics of the cable damascus billets for thiers the small piece of cable damascus is for the S gard on cody's upswept knife It's got some thickness Both knives will be from the same billet so the pattern will match I thought I had a pic of more current progress, but I cant find it... It aint that hard, we had folks from all round the world postin here once, we can again. Lots of us fell on hard times recently, which kinda takes one's attention, but I've found that there is strength forged in hard times

Right on Phoenix.
This place has been waiting to come back to life. What do you mean about the crane cable? Are you knocking cable into Damascus or something? How does that work, because I have lots of crane cable.

Crane Cable is made of high carbon steel wire strands... to make the billets, you heat to welding temps, flux the snot out of it with borax, then twist hammer, twist, hammer, till it's all one piece of steel. When you do it right, and etch it, it makes for some beautiful damascus blades. The two I'm doing for cody and zack started oit as 1 1/2 thick crane cable.

That's really cool about how to make the Damascus. I was thinking that it probably involved heat, borax and hammering. I am going to have to try this! Thanks!

Those videos are really cool. I can visualize doing that. What did he form his original billet from though? It looks to be about 2 inches square, that would take about a 3 inch cable to square that off. Wow, that's big cable! Do you usually square off a cable end to a billet, weld it to a rebar handle, cut the billet from the cable end and proceed? Lots of stupid questions, but I really want to try this.
Thanks,
