A while back a friend of mine asked me to make him a case for his lap top. We had an elk that was pretty poorly skinned, and has lots of scores and more holes than usual, but we figured we would use it for a project hide. So thats what I'm using. And NO, this is NOT what our hides normally look like. Just to clear that up in advance. The dark area across the bottom of the elk, is a shadow from the kitchen table. It has not been smoked yet. I want to smoke it as dark as possible as this guy works on construction sites and it will be exposed to dirt and grime as opposed to someone who works in an office. I plan to cut the parts of the laptop, baste them together at the corners and then every day when Joe smokes a hide, he can smoke the pieces too, resulting in a color darker than we usually need.
So I spent a few hours yesterday designing the case on paper, then drawing and cutting out my pattern until I was satisfied with it. The case will hav two compartments, the compartment in the back of the case where the laptop will be stored, will be padded on the back side, and fully lined with material to keep fuzz of the laptop. I will quilt that section of the back. The middle divider will have a place for pens and smaller tablets or what ever he wishes to put in the large pocket which will have a flap closure.
The shoulder strap will have a padded section for across the shoulder. The bag will have a 3" bottom and sides. I will put welts in all the seams because welts protect the sewing, and I like the look. when I use to make Missouri River Boatman shirts I always put a contrasting calico welt in all the seams. NIce.
So anyway, thats my project. When I'm done I'll go to the local office supply store and get some sort of folders to be placed in the front area of the hide, along with a small calendar etc.
Not sure how I will secure the lid, an antler button or velcro.
Anyway, thats my not so primitive project I have going.
