I was just explaining to someone about what I came up with to aid me in hand sewing of fabric. I use to be able to make a Missouri River Boatman's shirt in about a day and half. and this little idea sure helped me do that. Well, that and the brass thimble I'd clunk my kids on the head with until they ran away screaming and laughing, when they bothered me excessively. Ya, child abuser too. Anyway, if I had a long seam to sew, sleeve or side seam, I would, sitting at a table, attach a small piece of sticky velcro to the table to my right. I am left handed but sew with right hand, then after I had sewed maybe three to four inches of the seam, I would have a large safety pin with the opposite piece of velcro sewn onto it, and I would pin the edge of the material where I began the seam and then attach the two pieces of velcro together. By doing so, there was tension on the fabric and seam, and I could sew about twice as fast and end up with more even stitches and a tighter seam. And kids who would get their own glass of milk when mom was working on a project!!! haha.

Thanks for the tip Longtrail! I'm hoping to make a duster one of these days. Dave
