Hello everyone!!
I have spent most of yesterday and the day before working on the case I am making. It is coming along nicely, and yes Hannes, I sew it all by hand. Hand sewing was a talent passed down to me from my mother, who use to make my school clothes by hand. Anyway....
This first photo shows the color difference in the elk before it was smoked (the small sample) and after. I had Joe put it in the smoker for several smokings with the other hides we were doing.
Years ago I picked up two rolls of canvas webbing. I'm finally getting to use it! I decided that since the case would be carrying something heavy, it should be reinforced in as many places as possible. Also around the top of the divider and tops of any pockets where Bob will be reaching into.
The photo below shows how I reinforce the seams by sewing a canvas webbing welt into them. And also I have sewn a heavy canvas webbing strip along the bottom and sides that will connect to the webbing on the strap to prevent any stretching there.
The photo below is about where I ended yesterday evening. I have the front sewn onto the bottom and middle divider, When I turned it right side out it actually came out right, with both pieces facing how they should. Today I will do some more reinforcing and get the back and lid, which are one piece sewn onto it. Make the calico lining where the laptop will be stored, calico to prevent the computer from being covered with braintan fuzz which will tend to stick to it. I hammer all my seams to make the lay flat or be flexible depending on the seam. Makes for a more neat finished product I think.
