Howdy ya'll.. Been awhile since I last posted. Been kinda busy Hope all of your holidays were merry and bright! I wanted to post pics of my recent accomplishment.. Since I live with 4 kids between 10 and 17 and their dad..anything spurned from my hobby IS an accomplishment! Anyway my dad was complaining that the previous vest that I made for him was too snug so I picked up a Simplicity pattern for a large husky boys and mens shirt and vest and put a leather needle in my electric Singer sewing machine and saved a lot of time and effort there. I think it looks just fine. The dense buckskin IS smoked.. albeit lightly but I'm still reminded of the complaining he did about the vest I'd already given him.. He says the smoke made him break out in a rash and everything.. holy! so anyway This one is functionally smoked and you can indeed smell it if your nose is right into the skin. Think if it is laundered the skin will only become a bit more stiffer and a patina will replace the nice soft skin.. other than that my powerwashing and workings seem to have produced a skin that is not so easy to soften and very much less stretchy. Great thing if you're beading and applying quills. Paulette

Well the pkg. with the vest arrived at my dads room at the nursing home at the VA out in AZ this afternoon. He was real happy with it. Thx for your compliments. And Phoenix, that doesn't sound like a half bad idea! Didn't johnny cash wear a vest like that?? Oh-oh! Yeah I recall those days! LOL. Thx for the suggestion! Probably look great with the black boots spurs hat fancy belt and buckle and one of those dangly neck things hmmm?? One of those dusters would be cool too long as long as I'm dreamin' =)

Well.... I would Phoenix, but I don't have time ;-) Too many hides to tan, y/k? The locals gave me these. (This is only half of them and I was fleshing them as they were being dropped off. Whoopee! I could have a BYOB hide tanning party! Could probably toss them all in the pond for a few days have the party and take turns spraying them all with the pw'r to degrain and brain(and acidify)..lol.. things could get reaal hairy quick! might miss a little of that nasty grain around the necks, but.... it could be fun. Think of the sunburns we could all get.. and possibly hangovers, oh noooooo.. We might even have time for the more important things in life. Relaxing..what I like about using the powerwashers.. They do the work and I have more time to relax.

Thought I'd post a pic of my dear Dad proudly wearing his new brain tan vest. I was a little disappointed to see that he was wearing it inside out! Said he thought that the lighter color was the liner..hmmn and he was afraid he might get the lighter color dirty. Well anyway I hope to see him wearing it someday right side out! LOL ;D
