I saw where I Lt said they busted thier old fleshing knife, well mine just busted recently too. After a couple years, the handle and tang just snapped off. I guess the warrently ran out ;D I got this one from Minnesota Trappers supply. A bit pricey at $49, but it is made in the good ol USA and all metal construction. My only complaint so far is the metal handles have no grip. I think I'll wrap them in cord unless someone has a better suggestion?

Rubber inner tube. Cover the handles with rubber cement, and wrap strips (overlapping) around to the end. Tuck the end under with a daub of rubber cement.

I have been using this set up for the last month. I took the peg and notch idea from Melvin Beitie. I really like it because it pinches the hide in place, so it doesn't slip around, which is one of the biggest problems with upright beams. Mine is much cruder than Melvin's. I made the notch with the chain saw, my favorite carpentry tool. ;D The other end of the beam rests against a board nailed to the floor. Of course, we use a drawknife with this set up.
