thanks every one and thanks for the advice joanne. i figured out yesterday the right amount of preasure to apply on the down stroke. when i did all that junk just rolled off, like water off a ducks back. i feel that we ( me and cody who has been a big help) have got it thinned the best we can. the back legs and belly area almost feel like a paper sack. around the hump and along the spine i have scraped the crap out of it. i can't get nothing else to come off. the neck area has so many holes and scores that i don't know if i can get it good enough. the neck area don't feel near as thick as the spine and between me and cody i feel we've given it our all. tonight me cody and zack got the first coat of brains on it. heres a few pictures of tonight progress

It sure is looking like you and Cody and Zack are doing a great job! Sure is cool that you've got the help of a couple of good friends Billy! Hope they're going to be around to help you out during the softening process too? Sure that if you can get some brains into it and possibly some smoke and perhaps even more brain that you'll get her softened just fine. All a learning experience and besides it's great to see that ya'll are DOING IT! Thank you for sharing these pics! Sure makes the forum reading fun and interesting.

well i've been working on the buff and elk together. with the daylight saving time i have 4 hours worth of day light when i get home from work. so i was working on the elk for a couple of hours and working on the buff until dark. when cody got freed up from his work and started coming over i concentrated on the buff. all i got to do on the elk is scrap the neck and wring it and brain it and soften it and work myself to death haha. its done got warm down here so i want to get that elk finished before it goes to smelling kind of funny.
i got pictures of my work on the elk i'll be posting in a day or two. if'n i don't colasp first

update on the buffalo, i started softening on it this weekend along with that elk but was feeling like warmed up road kill. i did manage to soften it some, but its not acceptable for my pickyness(is that a word) right now it feels like a paper sack with hair all over it. i got it in my shop rolled up in the corner. lot of rain coming this week. i have a long weekend coming up around good friday, so if the weather will cooperate i'll make a nice robe out of it then
