Anybody know what kind of steel is in a crowbar? Would it do for knife blades?

I dont know what Kind of steel you are dealing with but if its a good name brand crowbar it should make a good knife. I have snap-on crowbars that i have stood on and they flex but dont bend, which tells me that its good steel. But i have used crowbars in the past (made in china) that have bent badly. This could have been due to a mild steel or bad heat treatment? . No matter what you use you should do a Quick test with a piece to see for yourself how it works. Just forge out a small section and treat it like a 10-- series steel and see what it does.

Cody, they are usually s7 or 5160. Both steels make excellent knives.
