hope she gets involved, i know she will love it. Billy said it , if your gonna do native, and it probably should be to fit in with your persona. Once in a while there is a little static about whites portraying native, but it's accepted anywhere i've ever been. I've been welcome to dance at pow wows several times around here, even though i dont' know how. There is a small handful of white women known to have anything to do with the rocky mountain fur trade, and that was during the latter years almost at the end of it all. I don't think Narcissa Whitman had anything to do with the trappers anyway, so it's more common and I'd even say more interesting to do native. This can justify having a tipi if you want to camp in the winter and have a better lodge. The women of the fur trade is the best place to get a start , hope she' likes it.

I was around Fort Bridger once when the girls were wearing those Cotton dresses. There is a story behind that , I'll try to explain it in a short few words. The Natives we are dealing with in the Rockies plenty of times wore nothing but a buckskin wrap skirt, and went topless. Jacob Miller paints this in a few paintings, George Catlin has a description of it. Any other time the style was a buckskin dress in full length, 2 hide and 3 hide, covering their body and the sleeves were open at what would be a seam to any other dress. Along came trade wool , and the natives adopted this and made a dress similiar to the buckskin style. It's all on the WOFT site . This cotton dress was a necessity, it was too hot for wool or buckskin and they can't go topless. It's one of those logical assumptions that a cotton dress was made this way and worn, it just isn't documented or painted anywhere at this time. Its the best thing that could be done under the circumstances. Dang joe , why are we talking about dresses? let her do the talking, she types better than you anyway! haha.
