This is a hackle for processing flax that goes way back in my husband's family. It was recently given to me. I had my Dad repair it with tin because the original metal that held the hackle to the board was almost worn away. Dad was impressed with the craftmanship. They are still sharp and each one was hand forged. Now I just need to run some raw wool through them to clean them and oil them a little. Dad also made me the box to kept them in. I made blueberry pancakes for everyone in camp this summer at a re-enactment. I borrowed my friends keyhole turner. I loved it! I ask her if her brother would consider making me one or two a shorter one for at my house and a longer one for campfire cooking. They making cooking fun for me. There is something special about using something handmade. I use them both daily on my cast iron cookware. So much for keeping one for campfire cooking. lol Probably not the tools you thought you would see, but I hope you enjoyed them anyway. paweaver

Well, I would love to show you how to use it, but I don't even have the flax planted yet. lol Hope you have plenty to eat because it will be about a year long wait. It just puts me one step closer to my dream of spinning flax.
