Howdy all, My name is Allen. This looks like a good place to hang out. I'm from Texas but now living in Oklahoma. I braintan, I dress up funny and run around in the woods, I also shoot my own supper at times. I'm a member of the COHT and working on the AMM requirements. I spend almost every weekend out doing what we like to call experimental archaeology. I"m a huge fan of Alfred Jacob Millers paintings and study of the american fur trapper. I hope to meet others with the same interest.

Hi Allen, Fellow greenhorn, So you are working towards being an AMM member. I was an associate member during the 80' and some 90's. A lot of people have definate likes and dislikes about the group, but I can only relate one experience that to me, signifies the moral code of the group. I use to have a large amound of trade goods that I took to rende. When I attended the amm doings, and did not want to hang in my camp all day where my trade goods were, I simply put a bunch of small bills and change in a bowl, left a pencil and paper and asked who ever bought something while I was gone to please write it down and make their own change. I was never ripped off. Need I say more. Good luck and may you have many many enjoyable years in the Amm.

well, the AMM is American Mountain Man (association), a group that authentically portray fur trappers of the rocky mountains during the fur trade period. The COHT is Coahilition of Historical Trekkers, it's a wide spread group that covers alot of time periods. The AMM, well some people love to hate it, I think it's because they do have pretty strict qualifications. I've had my ups and downs about it several times. I will attend any event, small rendezvous or the big national events and I'm nuts over just about any aspect of history. I do spend alot of time at private encampments too. Most of the small family oriented rendezvous are really the most fun and I won't give them up for anything, it would be a blast if all of us on this forum could have an event.
