Years ago, back in the 70s I came across an old copy of THE SONG OF HIAWATHA by HW Longfellow. If you have an appreciation for nature, the Native American, beauty, and dont mind reading some beautiful poetry, then please do yourself a favor and read this book. Ive read it 10 or more times. Some of the names are difficult to pronounce but you get use to them.
Today is tuesday, the grands are at school or the sitters so I enjoy some quiet time and search Netflix for movies to watch on the computer. I found THE SONG OF HIAWATHA.
You will enjoy the story more if you have read the book, you will be familiar with the characters, locations etc. But you do not have had to read the book to enjoy the beautiful scenery, the clothing and accoutrements from trade silver, trade beads, beautiful brain tanned clothing, birchbark canoes, wigwams and every thing inside of them, quill work, traditional tribal clothing designs etc.
REally a well made movie in spite of the fact it is a little slow now and then. Russel Means is in it and Also Graham Greene. Some white guys too, one playing a priest and the other a voyageur.
The man who plays Hiawatha is of course handsome and the woman is the same woman that the movie animated character of Pocahantis, was fashioned after, so she is also pleasing to the eye.
The movie is beautiful over all and much effort was gone to to make it authentic. enjoy lt

Longfellows poem Hiawatha, is not a singsong type of poem, every line rhyming or every other rhyming. it is very soothing the measure he uses. Almost spoken like native languages or like a native would orate. Not the typical poetry that even I dont care much for. but so beautifully written.
