Boy was I thrilled! Had the barrel out for a week now.. lol.. thought the season began last week! ooops.. well anyway letting the locals know that I'm back into collecting them anyway. I didn't see who dropped this one by. Just looked out by my barrel and there was a white box alongside.. hooray! Whoever did it did a decent job of skinning it too. The coat was real pretty.. short, dark. I removed the head and cut the skin open and crammed it into a 5 gallon pail of water. Should get started on it first thing in the morning. Anyway, it was such a thrill to get this skin today! This buck had like a black streak down the back of it's neck. really cool short short fur.. oh well. Sorry bout the graphic pics too if any of you are squeamish. More to fear from the living.. 2 ft'd creatures IMHO! Well the camera doesn't do the beauty of the skins justice really.

Almost considered just fleshing it the old way.. ha.. then I dumped the water out of the 5 gallon pail, touched the skin and changed my mind as memories of fleshing the old way returned.. screw that! I fleshed it with the machine. Grained it with the waist beam and two different pipes.. smaller is easier but if you get your thumb in the way you can get an ouchie. I'm fine. the deer had a scar.

There were a lot of streaks from those deepset hairs. The washer cleaned up the skin really well. My daughters truck cap came in really handy as did the powerwasher and turbo nozzle. I just hand wrung the skin here. It's raining now.. would like to wring it well and stick it in some rain water.. be helpful, too I didn't make too big of a mess. already is messy on the 'other side' of the barn! This hide is practically ready to brain.. feels really good. not too slickery, and my thumb is just fine.. the skin's still there and not much worse that a blister.. shouldn't interfere with the softening of the skin anyway.

I like it when they come with the tanning package (head). I thought that washer grained them too.

This deer just so happened to be more than half brainless;) anyway, to answer your question Cody the power washer won't consistently grain them clean. So I decided to do it the old way which is consistently more effortful and occasionally painful. Lol. Well anyway it helps if one isn't all thumbs to begin with!
Thanks LT!! Dontcha just luv deerskins??
