Work is progressing slowly.. had to stop and finish drywalling and painting our sole bathroom that's been unfinished for the last 5 months..(the holidays are soon approaching)!
Anyway my coonskin bag needs a strap too.. was thinking to braid another strap.. crocodile ridge braid style.. never done one but I found directions for braiding one on the net (google search)that looks simple enough for me to give it a whirl. I decided to lace over the simple whipstitching on the sides of this bag with some buckskin lacing and that is just dragging along as seems every time I make a stitch the fur gets grabbed and wants to get sucked down the awl hole with the lace. Definately slowing progress on this bag.. was thinking to line this bag too but I dunno!!! have five or 6 more skins on the porch wanting attention too.. Besides the ELK 'hair on' that are wanting some sanding I think to smooth down my shaving job! I also have a couple more deerskins to flesh and grain so never a dull moment around here! Then we have kids catechism and basketball practice in the near future here.. how's a person supposed to get anywork done around here!
Sorry for the lousy pics.. these phones are handy but they definately are lacking a nice lens!
I let the ears and nose and head stiffen up quite a bit.. was still thinking to line the lid on this bag.. might glue some soft braintan on that, stitch it around the edges. maybe put a small piece of buckskin over the edge and do a running stitch to encase the different layers.. still need to stitch on the tail too. I found Markus Klek's version of the coonskin pouch on the net for the directions for making these coonskin bags.. kinda fun and simple to construct.. of course I have to make it more difficult and much more material consuming!
oh well even if it's still in the works i just figured i'd share!
