This may be the largest deer I've tanned that came from here in PA, or at least I assume it did. Got it with my archery season hides this year. 18 square feet. Some of my ranch elk are not much larger. Wonder what he weighed?

really is big for pa isnt it ?? Just out of curiosity, how do you measure your hides?? Length times width divided by 144=square feet. I round it down to the nearest square foot or half foot.

Happy Thanksgiving ya'll! Better start cooking.. really I'd rather be fleshing deerskins that are increasing out there with the powerwasher instead...I will remind my kids to be thankful that I chose to cook and bake rather than work on deerskins....hmm...nap this afternoon or work on skins???.. well......oh yeah.. play modern warfare 2 with the kids.. NO>>>> that's all bloody and disgusting! Kids these days!

got to figure it in inches,, for example take 2 foot x 5 foot, or 24x60=1440 inches , then divide by 144 (12x12) = 10 square feet. It's easier just to multiply in feet, if you round your measurement off to the foot, 2x5=10 , it's probably better business ethics to measure in inches.

I go a step further with measuring. I measure the width every six inches, then average it out. I also have a wall with 1 foot squares to also help with the measuring. Just gives me an idea for pricing. If the hide has no holes, I round up. If some holes and knife marks, I round down. It helps me to have a fair price. Just my two cents worth! Dave
