Yep sure are pretty. I can imagine how tough it's been getting them done.. that humidity and all the wet and cold weather can surely make things a bit more difficult to get done. My whole house is one big critter studio.. can't go anywhere without seeing hides and skins in construction!
Looks like some fine skins there Billy. Keep up the good work. Will make the ones you tan this summer seem like a breeze!

critter studio, i like that. you never realize how much weather effects hide tanning until it gets bad

Been doin' a little brain tanning myself lately. Gotta force myself to get more into the smoking part! And naturally all days are not sunny and calm and dry.. .. like today!.. anyway I'm going to try and smoke some more skin in a sack in the little smokehouse I built been on a smoke the heck out of them kick.. kinda.. usually results in an uneven smoke job! The finished skins stacked kind of makes one want to get crafty and start stitching, doesn't it?? lol This one that I'm working is like the 'hide from hell'. One stubborn skin.. think the dang eggs and on and off working I've been doing on it and possibly the time of year. was a roadkill have all added up to a 'this hide is going to make moccasins very nice' type of skin.. anyway I really should attempt to REALLY SMOKE IT UP! I was tempted to leave it out in the rain and then resoften but I could envision the wind blowing the frame down on the ground and this skin getting dirty and or stained up easily that way soooooo.. time to start stitching it up again I think! Seeing that it's giving me such hell I should probably KEEP IT! probably should hang on to skins such as these.. you know, for reflection or something like that. it's the one on the RIGHT. oops wrong picture, lol here it is. I hope! forgot to click 'copy'. and again. I guess what I get for not using 'brains' on this here hide. it's really quite a large size hide but kind of hard to tell.. the dog. my pal's name is 'Buddy. He's a good old boy. took this pic the other day when I originally smoked it. couldn't even turn the neck inside out on it then, so I guess it is softening up SOME.. I usually don't have THIS much trouble softening skins but between all things considered.. I think it is just one of those fluke 'queer' hides. This lil tool has been real handy for enforcing tough skins to behave.
