well i have been busy moving and getting settled in to our new place and trying to catch/shoot thieves at my old place, i aint had much time for nothing. got plenty of hide work to do and doing my best to keep it going with everything else going on.
the first two weeks after moving to our new place we had no tv, phone or compooter, so to keep me out of trouble during the night time hours i broke out some leather i got from brother chaz and tried my hand at holster making.
the first holster is for a walker colt and i copied it from a original that is in the book from patternson to peacemaker by dennis adler (awesome book)
this second picture shows the close up of the stamping i did. yup some are crooked, but not too bad for my first time
and a close up of the star cut out and the flap stamping
for the walker holster i used cidar vinegar and rusted nuts and bolts to make what is is called a vinegar-oo. makes a nice deep black dye that won't stain your clothing or wife's carpet.
the second holster i copied from a old picture that claimed to be taken in 1856 and was made by main and winchester.
i used neats foot oil to stain this holster.
i've made another slim jim style holster and making a belt for it as well, i 'll post pictures of that when finished. and i made a tom threeperson holster for my dad for fathers day. got to take a picture of that one to post as well.
since i made these i have gotten chuck burrow's video on making holsters, and i must say i learned alot from that. got some patterns on order from will ghormley and as soon as i get them in i'll be trying my hand at carving. got better leather tools now as well so i'm armed for bear
