Here's an odd idea, why don't we all look at all the different categories that we can post to, and try to throw something new into the mix? If all or half of the topics started with Today, think how many new folks would want to read? This place is too good to be sidelined and bypassed. We need to start talking again.

I Been meanin to put up a thread titled "The death of a website"
It's a common cycle, a new website will spring up, new folks come in all the time, everyone is getting to know everyone else. Folks post about anything and everything goin on, answer each others posts, and everything goes well fer a few months. Then folks start sayin to themselves "Self, ya already posted somethin like that..."and they stop postin. then theres a lull... new folks stop arrivin, and the original folks just sit waitin, waitin to welcome someone new, and stop talkin to each other... then they sit, not wantin to post anything, cause they think nobody here is payin attention, or they think nobody wants to hear about whats happinin in thier lives. then it becomes a death watch... waitin for the site to die. I was gone for a long time, not really y fault... it wasnt lack of interest on my part. I came back in, and been pokin folks with sticks, tryin to get 'em to tell us whats goin on. A healthy website should be a blog of ALL of the members.... what's goin on, what they think and feel, how they can help someone else. If the latest post show from 2 days ago, a new member will assume the site is dead, and move on. We have too many good folk here to let that happen, and I'm gonna keep proddin and pokin till folks wake up.

Whitedove,
All the instruments you named would be period correct. I made a banjo in high school. I used a possum skin for the head. Makes pretty good sounds. The only thing I could play on it was the refrain from Dueling Banjos, but my brother could really play.

they would certainly be appropriate, but as for myself, the only skills the good lord gave me as far as music is a passable singing voice. My old fightin and hammerin hands just dont seem able to coax even a simple tune outa a real musical instrument. Used to be able to dance, but now... you ever see a one legged injun try to do a rain dance? I can sure make an anvil ring though!

Hi, forgive me if this is ending up in the wrong category, I'm new to using this. Anyway, I have been trying to tan pigskin for the last couple months. I'd prefer to do the process naturally and with brain. So far no matter hoe much scraping, stetchig or brain application I keep ending up with some hard, raw hide that looks loke something Id feed to my dog. I'm clearly missing somthing. I want to make the skin into soft leather that can be sewn or displayed, can anyone help me with this?

rachel, Yes, I think you need to switch to deer. I've never heard of anyone being real successful brain tanning pigskin. Some types of hide just don't have the right fiber structure to braintan.
