Recently I began using netflix and watching all the movies with Native American and western theme. I have found that if I pause the movie on a certain frame, which has beadwork or clothing construction that I like, I can use my 35 mm to take a photo.
Some of these photos are from a movie called THE SAVAGE, with a very young, never looked better, Charlton Heston. Story goes he and his family in wagons, attacked by Crow, all killed but Heston as a child, of course, was saved by a passing band of Sioux and raised as one of them by a chief, of course, fought along side his indian brothers, of course, ended up betraying them, of course. dont you just hate predictable movies?
this Movie was made in 1952, I was still in diapers, some of you younguns were, well, you know....
Sorry for the blurriness of some of the photos.
I was surprised at the quality of the clothing. Obviously the clothing was not thrown together for the movie as so many "costumes of the day" were. but were ceremonial clothing belonging to the NA's.
There were also a surprisingly large amount of actual Native americans in the move, of course most of the lead roles were taken by the white actors.
Some photos are from the movie Calamity Jane with Angelica Houston and some are from Lonesome Dove.
Anyway, enjoy...
check out not so ol Iron Eyes Cody, who I hear was actually Sicilian and made his fortune in Hollywood playing the NA.
OOOps, almost forgot charlie...
sorry about the sideways shot charlie.
