I just got word that the state of Illinois has put a lien on my folk's house for medical bills. Since the bills were supposed to be paid by medicare, I looked into it.
a coupla years back (one reason I was away so long) my father had a heart attack requiring a quad bypass. He was on SS, and was recieving state aid for heating in the winter. Momma hadn't slept for 2 days, and had no Idea that medicare shuld pay for the hospitalization, shae had never dealt with anything like his before. The state aide office showed up with some papers, had her signthem, and told her that dad would be paid for, butthat a lien was being placed on the house. the bill was never submitted to medcare.
For years the mayor had been harrasing my father, trying to grt him to sell... The house is over 160 years old....a historic site. I think the previous mayor (the new one is a friend of mine) sent the rep from the state over just to get the house in state hands.
I'm gonna have to go up there soon, and knock some heads... My mom and dad think they dont own thier house anymore, and it stresses them greatly. I'm gonna fix that.
anyway, as soon as I can scrape togetherthe oney for a plane ticket, I'm heading up there, dunno for how long. I'll ry to check in, but mom and dad dont have internet, so I'll have to find a connection.
Wish me luck and pray for my folks, if you will.

It thier house they just can never sell it unless the lien is paid, you have to keep signing it over, have them sign it to you if they so choose. Tar and feather the mayor!
