Oh yes I do. Long before I even thought of tanning hides I was knitting and the colorful sweaters with the prancing reindeer and snowflake patterns have always totally fascinated me.. so before I stopped knitting I was doing lots of the color changes, etc. I don't have any pics of my work back then but it's just a shame that we seldom see here in the US that long traditional style of dress. So intricate compared to relatively totally plain garb here. About all I ever wear are simple tee shirts or sweatshirts and blue jeans.. (Boring!) So someday maybe I'll wear only braintan buckskin in many colors.. I have done a lot of quilting and some applique too, so be neat to make my own style braintan.. I'll just break all the rules and start a new 'fad'.. the heck with those french women.. can't accuse me of being skinny!

that is interesting culture on that link redthunder. The Broadcloth they mention is the same as what we had here 200 years ago. But that makes sense, everything you had we got in trade , most of our broadcloth came from Stroud England, russian sheeting, and more came from other countries in trade. Either way your historical dress is similar to our historical dress, but again thats because our americans 200 years ago was your historical people. Joanne you make a good point, at one time people were so proud and hardworking that we hand sewn our clothing with real precision it could take some journeyman 7 years to get to apprenticeship in tailoring. Clothing was beautiful in history, even working mans clothes were not as primitive as some think, some working mans vests had as many as 20 buttons down the front, all hand sewn and cloth covered. It amazes me they would put so much labor into something and then go out and work in it , thats pride.

That brings back a memory I have of wearing my buckskin dress to flesh some hide or hides with and I hadn't worn an apron or anything and got it all truly bloody a real mess.. I thought Uh-oh.. Gone and done it now!.. It all came out in the wash.. go figure, huh?.. now if it would have been my 10. jeans? forget it!

Aw that was awhile ago and it was a three hide dress and was never comfortable on me so I took it apart'n cut it up, lol. There is a pic of it on the Braintan hideout but I looked for it before and couldn't find it. Here is the only one that I have of ME in buckskin and I worked in it too.. oh yeah the flies and bees were all over last time I was skinning roadkill in buckskin.. that was one heck of a nice hide there 12 sq ft doe.. MI corn fed.. poor twins though, I waited for the officer to show up for over an hour to pick up that doe that'd been hit..whew... stinky it was but worth it.. huge hide with nothing but a little scuff mark on the skin.. amazing. This was my son admiring his crazy old ladies work..doesn't he look proud?? ;D
