is cotton mostly from India during the early 1800's? I got this from a guy on another forum too. if i make a cotton shirt the fabric has to come from India? One of the realities that supports the myth of no cotton consumption until the 19th century was that the majority of the cotton that was grown by Western (European) farmers was short staple cotton that was exceedingly hard to use in the volume needed for wholesale industrial purposes. They had to wait for the cotton gin to be perfected before short staple cotton became a viable commercial crop. In India, and the hotter climates of the world, a long staple cotton was grown from which it was easy to extract the seeds. Cotton textiles were exotic, imported goods during the 18th century, but they weren't rare.

Good question Taosdjango.. bet my friend bearded horse would know. I could ask if you still care to learn the answer?
I would say Grey Wolf really knows a LOT of stuff.. Could be that he's incorrect. It's more than likely not worth haggling over IMO..
