Added a new member to our family this week. Just a baby really, whom we need to fatten up a little bit! She will be a year old on Oct 21st. I have a lot to learn about horse starting! Hope to devote a lot of time to bonding with this baby. She's been handled VERY little.. so will take some time to earn her trust.. possibly just to get a halter on her! Our daughter has managed to pull most of the burrs out of her main.. still a few left. We got her wormed yesterday.. possibly for the first time?
I fell for the yearling.. (no name yet.. just got her this past Tuesday!), while visiting the farm that I arranged to have our mare taken to for breeding, lol, so next year, we will really have our hands full with these gals! Full of hay, no doubt! Need to tan LOTS of skins to cover the feed bill! Hopefully our mare 'took' after nearly 3 weeks away. Bo's an incredible stallion and throws lots of color.. Is the father of our new yearling and the little black horse pony in the pic with him and also the sire of two horses I've had in the last 15 years.. a great palomino mare, Misty and another stallion Mr Red.. he was a beautiful bay that went on from our place to win a championship for barrel racing. He was a pretty horse.. had a perfect star on his face. This stud, Bo has never needed having his feet trimmed in nearly 20 years! Unpapered but could have had them I guess.. he's thoroughbred and quarter horse and has the best temperament EVER. Has NEVER bit or kicked anyone in his many many years.. I can't wait to see what our mare will have next August.SHe's 4 and is quarter horse thoroughbred paint, herself. SHe could have anything but will do all I can just to have strong and healthy colt.. lots of responsibility.. Hopefully our daughter will share in the work when the weather gets BRUTAL!! She seems to be mothering this yearling now and I think she is very happy to have some horsey company. Not really great to have a single horse.. they can get lonesome! Hope ya'll enjoy the pics.
