My friend Mike wearing the hat I made him out of his coyote. It's a repeat as I tanned it a couple of years ago and posted it a while back but I thought it might bear going over again as it's about that time again when fur hats are a good thing to wear to keep yer ears from freezin' up!! It's also the time of year when folks start shooting them! (But that's okay, cause I think I've had about enough of those critters!) By braintanner101 at 2011-12-10

Someone copied my picture (above) and posted it to a forum I was banned from asking if they knew where they could find someone that made these. So naturally I fell for it and I couldn't resist posting in regards to my own darn work! LOL..it started a whole FLAMING new thread on that other forum (directed towards me) by the owner of that site. Oh yeah he roasted me for commenting... I do read there and on several other forums.. Check it out if you haven't already;-).
Fine with me.. Coyotes might be tricksters, mr taosdjango, but they're more than that they're survivors. Coyotes are quite intelligent wily creatures and some are downright beautiful. Each animal I tan I learn and glean something from by handling them, studying them a bit. I truly believe in the symbolism that the American Indians had for animals. Their habits and traits do pose lessons. I like how NA and most likely mountain men were 'aware'.
I guess the Mountain men COULD wear what they wanted on their heads and wearing 'yotes would probably just be 'asking for trouble! I would only assume that a mountain man would wear something to show some other trait than one noted for trickery and survival.. after all, there's much more to life than simply surviving it! ;-) You don't suppose it is mere coincidence that this guy, Mike (in the picture) is wearing that shirt he's got on? The Lord works in mysterious ways. I have absolutely no doubt! thanks for asking

Oh no! Sorry for the misunderstanding.. wasn't saying that at all. No it was some guy called Stalking Wind on another forum that copied my pic, but that was fine as I'm proud of my work. He wasn't trying to pass it off as his own.. just to use it as an example of a nice coyote hat.. was wondering if anyone knew anyone that made them.. so I posted after being banned on that Paleoplanet.. MY BAD!! Interesting though.. yes, I doubt the mountain men wore coyote hats.. wolf drape hats maybe but not coyotes.
