Hopefully! Pressurewashed three large cow bison skins last week to get one of them for my own.. Sounded like a good deal to me.. took me just over 2hrs.. good thing for warmer temps.. I think it was just close to 40 degrees out.. still got good and chilled but was able to roll the machinery and gear back into the 'house', lol and then deliver the two wet hides to their final destination.. Someone else's house. .and then re -salt my pick.. anyway I picked a nice one with a patch of hair the size of my hand showing a shorter length?!? seems these frozen and thawed and now fleshed skins MAY have been taken late in the 'season' hope not.. well there really isn't any season as such for bison skins but if you want them fully furred HAIR ON you need to get them skinned before they begin to 'shed'.. lol.. oh well.. if it loses a few heavy patches.. I can live with that! I will soften and tan it like it is and hopefully it will retain its heavy thick coat!
these babies, all three were skinned and salted when I got them to flesh.
Startled the crap out of our one horse Beauty with my daughter on it.. as she sensed wrong and simply smelled 'strange beast' and that partially stiff tail sticking up on the top one really probably sent her flying off in the other direction! So Helena flew off when Beauty did an 'about face'.. holy.. sorry about that Kiddo! You okay?? NOT.. anyway we didn't go in for X-rays but it was CLOSE to it.
that night it was all I could do just to get some heavy salting in on it and pull it over the rail to drain. Next morning I pulled it down to measure it..
7x7!
The power washer and turbo nozzle really does a fantastic job.. I didn't do the fur side at all.. Usually I would like to do that all at once but that simply wasn't happening doing the work on my own.. so
Looks furry here!
Needed to drape it over the line to get the skin good and dry.. even in FREEZING temp bacteria will work!
