Decided to try something new.. making another bag that ties at the waist, this one is going to be made with some hair on fallow deer that I braintanned. They neck hair doesn't seem brittle to me but I gave it a pretty thorough spray job with this women of color hair product. another name for spray on oil in a can for hair.. lol.. anyway it should help protect the hair from doing it's natural thing of drying out and breaking off! anyway I like the idea or breaking some rules.. and I think using hair on deer might be one of em.. anyway here's a few pics of what I have going so far.. any opinions are naturally WELCOMED.
an inside view the hair sticking up on the right side of the bag in progress is giong to be the back and I'm going to whip stitch the flap for the cover to this spot.
I poked holes into the little piece of wt skin and the neck section of the fallow deer with an awl and used some cut lace from some more deerskin to whip stitch a side, stitched it halfway and put a piece of elkskin.. that was 'just' tanned anyway it had a lot of handle but there may be a little too much of an inside divider as it has a slight wave to it.. i don't think it will matter. hope not it was a bit time consuming to piece it inside..but if so I may have to cut and sew again! anyway......... i think i might want to take a strip of thin buckskin and place it over the front top edge of the bag under the flap and over the little side pcs and use a running stitch just for the hell of it mostly.. anyway here's a better idea of that....in this next picture.
this next pic is of the piece of deerskin that I want to use for the flap. it's got the elephant grain look to it and is very soft but also very thick.. I'm thinking of possibly cutting out some diamond shapes in a repetitive manner perhaps just above a short fringe I might cut out along the bottom edge of the cover. I don't have any of those cone things but I think a row of those would look pretty swell.. I add tin cones onto my list of things to buy ;D
this pic kinda shows the 3 main pcs of material I'll be using. .the lght colored deerskin is what I'll be making the straps I'll piece together in the middle of for the belt. I'll just fringe both ends of that..so.. kinda what i'm doing or plan to be in doing in the near future. hope ya'll enjoy seeing it come together.
