Tonight I was working on two knives at one time (dumb for me) one a small patch knife the other a skinner ,the patch knife was already shaped with a edge forged in and ready for filing and was going to put it back in one more time to straighten it just a touch and left it too long and burned it up . Dang it!

If working on two knives at one time, I time everything to the small blade. The smaller the blade, the quicker it heats. One way of giving yourself a little time, is to lower the air blast when you put the small blade in the fire. Post a pic of what is left, and I might be able to make some suggestions for it... I hate waste. I'll be firing up the forge today, I'll try to take some pics.

yep its a heartbreaker, Id been working on a wrought iron and steel edge welded saex blade, had her all sanded down, took me FOREVER to get that wrought and steel to take well, like 3 knives worth, went to heat treat, let my attention wander for just a few seconds and blamo, the steel burned .... never ever ever take your eyes off the metal and if your working smalll, like Phoenix says, lower that blast and check it often. hammer on! we all burn steel dont let it get ya down heh.
