I had a SCV meeting last night and the Commander is also a buckskinner and he said a freind that went to the Southwestern said there was three seperate tent fires there .So much for flame retadant canvas .One man had a wall tent andf had the flap tied at night and couldnt get out and got burned pretty bad .Wonder if clothes pins on the ties would hold the flaps shut? Would be easyer to push out in case of a fire. Yall be careful out there I never heard of that many fires before.

I heard very little about that happening Cody, but this time of year the wind is pretty bad and it's usually people that aren't careful when it gets windy. Its a real wake up call when a tent fire happens. I seen a foot of snow on a march morning and by lunch melt off, the wind picked up and dried out the top of the grass, thats all it took for a fire to spread and almost wipe out a whole camp. thats a good idea of using a quick opening tent, if no clothespins be sure to tie a knot where just a simple pull will open and get you out.

Two of them were just that and one was just careless caused by a dog.

I heard a little more about that fire at the southwestern,, one was in a tipi where the guy left his fire un-attended, the second was caused from a guy changing a small propane bottle and broke the tip... not sure on those details after that.. the last one was un-attended fire again, however the guy was burned really bad. He was wearing a kilt being dressed as a scott and the kilt was made out of polyester blend, it did more damage because of the material. After this episode several of the rendezvous are being alert of course, one should never leave a fire going and walk off, especially inside a tipi. At least ask your neighbor to keep an eye on it. It's a good rule to burn your fire down before you go to bed at night, take a few extra blankets and try to do without the propane heaters. A few people I talked to that attended that southwestern were concerned about flame retardant tentage. Yes, if you think your flame retardant tent won't burn you got ripped off, thats about all I could say to those folks. I feel bad for the loss of equipment they had, and the injuries , lets hope nobody else lets this happen. It'll be different around here in the rendezvous scene for a long time as people will take notice of this.

i hate to hear about the injuries and lost of equipment to. but the tents are flame retardent not flame proof. we probadly couldn't afford a tent that was really flame proof. all the rendezvous i've been to are very safety cautious, but now its gonna be saftey crazy. no more farting around the camp fire. i didn't know they had propane bottles in the fur trade, wonder if ole jim bridger had one
