Looks nice and clean. I just passed up a coon this week, because they are way past prime. Should have sent it to you. Rule of thumb in the fur market, is after January they have no fur value. The last Feb one I tryed to tan the hair was shedding bad. Got more patience than me to skin out them feet!

hell, if you were my hubby with all them furs you trap I'd be mortgaging the house for a belt drive powerwasher and lots of bruce rittles supplies.. damned right it's clean and well women do have more patience than men generally I think! I didn't see any fur shedding at all ..maybe it's just colder here in MI than it is in PA.. isn't there a way to tell if the skin is prime or not.. this skin was white.. if they're blue is that good or bad? I forget.. not a trapper just a hobbiest hide tanner.. don't even know what I'm going to do with the skin.. probably just add it to my collection of skins needing softening and smoke perhaps! I may need to mortgage our house for a couple more freezers at least!.. hell I can't pay the light bill now!! aw daing life sure nuff ain't easy is it.. oh well I guess I'm doing better than the rk'd coon!

Unfortunely, the big tannerys are impossible to compete with on furs. I've never found a way to actaully make a buck off 'em, although I do tan a few now and then-they look good hanging around the house and tent. As much as I love to trap, I have to admit, at best it's a break even proposition most years. Blue coon generally means unprime, although there is a point in the fall where the leather can be blue and the fur basically filled out. I sold some to a braintanner a few years ago that I took in Feburary and they were pretty nasty, big old rubbed males. But yours looks ok, far as I can see from the pics. I've seen guys who can flesh a coon in five minutes on a beam. I would guess it takes me about ten with a little practice.
As far as money, don't want to talk about it, it's tax time, and Uncle Sam got me pretty good this year!
