I do a small amount of fingerweaving. Here is a list and my thoughts on some of the books I have found written about it. If you know of any other book on fingerweaving would you please inform me? I am doing a study on the two different ways of fingerweaving. I'm even doing samples of each way. The finished product looks very similar, however the method used to weave it is different. I guess I need to get on to the books and quit boring everyone with the details....
Finger Weaving: Indian Braiding by Alta R Turner. --Colorful pictures- only a few graphs or drawings of how the strings move. Most of the instruction are written out. Not my favorite as I like lots of graphs.
The Basic Book of Fingerweaving by Esther Dendel--- A cool book to look at but definitely from the 70's. It covers more braiding styles than just fingerweaving. It has pics of an Osage Indian braided bedspread made by Celia Wagner! Wow, that pic always amazes me. It does include graphs for each braid.
A Manual of Fingerweaving by Robert Austin--- This one is only about fingerweaving and it is the part of the cause of my study. I had never heard of fingerweaving with both ends tied off to something before. It reminds me of back-strap weaving. He makes beautiful sashes and many are pictured in his book. He has graphs in the book, however you have to learn his system.
Assomption Sash by Marius Barbeau --Very interesting! A lot of history. It has been translated from French so sometimes you need to read over a sentence a few times to understand it. French adverbs and adjectives work different than we are use to. It is probably not the book that you would start your first project from.
