Ok, let's say you have a 12" piece of steel that you want to make a 9 " bowie out of. It kinda makes for a short handle. Here's a rock solid way to accomplish this. The nice thing about this design, is you can make several handle styles, and try each one out to see how they look before actually mounting the blade

Coke bottle is a handle design (shaped like a cokebottle) used on a lot of bowie knives from the 1800's. They were typically constructed in this manner, and this type of construction has become known as that. Although the handle design in my drawing is not representative of this design, the method of construction is the same.
