While living in western Oregon I had the pleasure of working with cedar bark. I regret that I did not get more photos of this back pack, as it has two beautiful weeping heart copper buckles held by woven canvas straps which were dyed with cedar bark. The cedar, although not thick, was very durable and extremely light. I had laced together a bottom of cedar sticks to re-enforce it. The copper, buckles were eventually removed from the back pack and put on this otter hide elk bag, were then removed and put in my treasure chest until I find something else wonderful to put them on. I have tin cones that have been on my clothing, my children's clothing and were even sold once but made it back home as thier crying annoyed the new owner. haha. Willow Back Pack worn by Old Wrong Foot (Don Smith, not so old in this photo) from the N.W. Anyone know him? If so please tell him Longtrail said hello!!!!! Copper Buckles on Otter bag.
