Starring Richard Harris ~ 1971 Did anyone catch this movie on the Western Channel last night? It was loosely (Hollywood version) based on the experiences of old Hugh Glass, the mountain man mauled by a bear and left for dead by his fellow trappers, who amazingly recovered and made his way back, I believe in real life, to a fort. I always like to closely observe the clothing and accoutrement's in a time period movie. Sometimes Hollywood gets it pretty close and some time they don't. When they don't, its REALLY BAD. The audio sucks in this movie, if you have the volume loud enough to hear the conversation, the action scenes will blow you off your chair. Keep the volume control in hand. ;D Looks like a pretty good book about Hugh Glass, on AMAZON. On this site you can open the book to see the Table of content, back of book and excerpt. www.amazon.com/Saga-Hugh-Glass-Pirate-Mountain/dp/0803258348/ref=pd_sim_v_title_4/104-1329758-7707122

i.ve seen that movie before its a preaty good movie. back when that movie was made hollywood didn't care about being historically correct just as long as it looked like the old west was good enough. thats why you see so many older westerns that was suppose to be happening in the civil war and the main star would be using winchester rifles and colts peacemaker revolver. that brings to mind the old movie Winchester '73 starring Jimmy Stewert. it is one of my favorite movies ever made, but in the movie one of the stars complains about the henry rifle he is shooting and its really a winchester model 73. gotta love hollywood

You obviously know your early firearms. Funny story about the '73. You'd think someone would have noticed. We watched a western once and you could see the jet trails in the sky.

yep i've seen that one too. i seen one that was suppose to be happening during the lonehunters time period and they were using springfield trapdoor rifles, when they should have been using flintlocks. alot of old movies from the 50's would take colts peacemakers and weld a chunk of metal to the bottom of the barrells to make them look like loading levers off cap and ball revolvers. they would take winchesters model 92's and take the forearm off polish the reciever and say it was a henry rifle. will samson carries one like that in the movie the great white buffalo
