Does anyone make their own hawk handles ? If so any ideas would be great . ;D

Phil, I usually just pick a hardwood stick off of the woodpile that's been there at least a year. I look for one that is roughly the right shape, and at least 1/3 bigger in diameter than I need. I chuck it up in the vice, and have at it with a drawknife. I start scraping next (usually with a half finished knife) untill I get the contours I want. After I get it how I want it, I use a 5/8 SS rod to burnish the wood. (sure beats sanding) I oil it with a rag and canola oil, leave it overnight, then burnish it again. If you want to add a clearcoat, skip the oil... for obvious reasons.

thanks mate, that sounds pretty much straight foward . I do like the natural oil finish .
