I could have sworn I wrote and posted this last night, but can't find it now. I have found an answer to my dilema.
We first received recognition for our pre-smoke method of brain tanning on the Native Tech site. That was years ago, many years ago. On that site are two articles on the pre-brain method by paul, joe and myself, all of those are out of date. If anyone says that brain tanning is not a continous learning experience, they are wrong. We have always experimented with ways to make the experience easier. When you stop experimenting, you stop learning. Anyhoooo.
I have contacted Tara at Native Tech, she is the founder for the site and maintains it. She has agreed to post the revised method we are using now and delete the old ones.
I think this is going to remedy my concerns because what ever goes onto the NA site is copyrighted to the author. And dated, which is what I was wanting. At least if anyone pops up and says, hey I discovered this great way of tanning, and it is what I posted on NT, well, you'd know it wasnt really them. And thats really all I want. I never intended to get rich. I just wanted credit given where credit is due.
She is going to be out of town until early next week. Between now and then I will finish the article I have been working on and get it to her for her to post. You can either refer to the NT site or contact me and I can send a file with the information in it.
We still plan to make a dvd. but probably won't have it for another month as I will be back east for a couple of weeks come the end of the month. I am hoping to have a small field guide to go along with the dvd. something with lots of photos and not a lot of text, just showing what the hide should look like during each step so you do not have to keep refering to the dvd. (like I would have to do). I can say that I am excited about being able to share this information with yall. I am hoping that we can make your tanning experience easier and the results your acheive, better. I know that we do not have the only method that works, I have read that quite a few of you are pleased with the method you now use. Thats great. If you do try our method, you need to start with a hide that has not been exposed to vinegar or lye or what ever you have been putting hides in up to now. If you do, then your not using our method, and can't criticize when it doesn't work.
bla, bla, bla. anyway. I will let you know when the article is available on NT.
What is so funny to us, is that it took us so damn long to discover a couple of things so so simple that make a world of difference.
Who knows, maybe some of you have been doing it this way for years, there's nothing new under the sun. But it could be new on the frames! Later yall. lt
Where is the painting of the guy on the horse? I can't find it again.
