No visions of sugar plums in my head. I wake up thinking of tanning hides etc. We hate, hate to sew hides in tubes, and baby sit them until they are smoked enough. Not sure why, just seems like another step we wish to avoid. I have wanted to build this prototype but havn't had the extra $$. I thought if we had to baby sit several hides at once, it wouldn't be so bad. But maybe someone out there would like to try it if ya havn't already. Dlt

That looks like it would work well. I agree on babysitting hides, but with my long pipe set up on mine, all I have to do is check them once in awhile for color. If I'm not concerned about the color, I just toss in some wood now and then to keep it going. I actually have room to hook up a second woodstove and do two at once, even have the stove, just haven't done it yet.
I tried doing them without sewing into tubes when I first started, and I used to get some really cool looking evenly smoked hides, but it took forever to get any color, and forget about dark smoked ones. For some of the eastern stuff--people want the hides are dark as possible.
