just wanted to share a recipe for a home made bullet lube i just found out about. its a mixture of parrifin wax beeswax and mutton tallow.
i decieded to give it a try and it works like a champ so far.
i've been shooting blackpowder guns most of my life and have tried all kinds of new gimmacks and "witches brew" and most of it wasn't worth a flip.
i made up some following the recipe i'll post a link to. but being me that made it, i used deer tallow instead of mutton. it took less than a hour to make half of a large coffee can , and that much should last for sometime.
i shot it through my cap and ball navy colts at a cowboy match yesterday. i shot exactly 60 rounds and i was pleased with the results. it did just as good as the store bought stuff i have been using. this morning i cleaned the navy colts and i was tickled pink with the results. i ran 3 dry patchs down the barrel and it was clean. i followed up with a wet patch a wet bore brush and swab and another dry patch. and it was clean as a whistle. in less than 10 minuets i was drying my guns and re-oiling them. works great
when i clean my black powder guns i use hot water, as hot as i can stand to put my hands in, and thats the cleaning method i used this morning.
it took me around 30 minuets to clean, dry and re-oil two guns, when before it would have taaken me about a hour.
anyhow heres the link to the forum i found this at. it is full of good info for all kinds of shooting as well as black powder. i see they also have a taxidermy forum but i haven't check it out as of yet.
