Hannes, being a fellow victim of a sweet tooth, was wanting me to make him some cinnamon rolls while I was in SA. I did. I also made him a pie from what I always thought, were poision berries from the purple nightshade plant. The berries are commonly sold and eaten in SA. His wife Jeanne had purchased a bunch of them so I had lots of berries to use. Being in a strange kitchen, I couldn't find two pie plates so decided to get brave and see if I could make a good crust for a large rectangular pan. The berries had lots of juice and I usually use minute tapioca in my berry pies to absorb some of the juice. I never had any luck with using flour. So the tapioca I used was not minute, and soaked up a bit more of the juice than I would have liked, but overall the pie came our pretty good. At least I didn't hear any complaints and it didnt last too damn long !!! haha. In honor of the Donkey Valley Farm, I put a donkey on the top crust. We had fresh cream to put on top and it was fantastic.
