thanks for the tutoral . that really cleared some confusion up with me.
i read once that you could do the final temper by putting metal in corn bread mix and cooking it in oven. when the corn bread was done and cooled the metal was then tempered.
i got that from a gun smithing book. and the parts they were talking about cooking in corn bread was a trigger or a hammer. which would be smaller than a blade. would that work for a blade? or does the sand conduct the heat better. or is it 6 in one hand half a dozen in the other.

The temp is what matters billy... if you cook your cornbread at 400 then it would work fine
