Finally got the tipi set up again. The elements are harsh on tipi here in MI. I painted it all up to cover the stains from the mildew. Copied a design I liked from one of the Nomadics pages. Blackfoot looking design. I like it in this spot..facing the east. It's real close to all my chores! Hopefully the kids and I can try out the new pie iron after while. Appears like one of my children has a very long pointy nose,lol.. better not show her this thread! I'll get hollered at for sure!;-)I can't claim the kid on the far right but I will.

Thanks Billy. Think it looks better with the paint. Unfortunately I had to paint it heavily to cover the mildew and the glow from the fire no longer shows through the cover at night I didn't think I was going to get this tipi up again since it was so messed up.. a lot of the seams are just super glued! I hadn't staked it well in previous years and the wind got up under it and burst some of the seams from the threads weakening over time and our damp woodlands climate up here. Anyway surely enjoying it while we can.

nice painted, in my option a tipi is primitive, belong to be in the forest or out on the plains, but we all choose where to set up a tipi, camping in the back yard can be comfortable, i prefer to set up my tipi in forest and live there on summers like old primitive ways. here is my thunderbird tipi

Nice lodge Red Thunder! Nice you have your own forest. I could have put this tipi way out in the field or possibly right into the trees to the east of us.. My son who lives in the city thinks that it is a 'forest'. We just call it the 'woods' here! I've been busy removing this huge willow from the corner lot we recently purchased and so it is really nice not to have to deal with hordes of mosquitos or just walking through the long grass to get to the tipi. A secondary plus is that I do live Up North MI and many children who come up here from the cities downstate get to see my tipi when they ride by on the 'canoe buses' that shuttle them north for their canoe rental rides.. I hear from some of these bus drivers that my tipi really gets them excited and happy to see them. Lots of kids never have seen tipi's before mine. Glad you're enjoy enjoying seeing my tipi pics. The tree project is getting right down there! There isn't anything on the other 3 country corners.. so it almost feels remote..cept for the weekends when the corner comes to life with travellers seeking to get away from it all! (with wild boar just 1/4 mi. away I'm glad it's close to the house!)

Wow both are very impressive. Joanne2 it is great that you give of yourself to the kids and teach them theese skills and make it fun while you do. Redthunder you are right. It matters not where the tipi is. What matters is that you enjoy it. Both of you have found what works for you. Thanks for sharin. "Indian not lost! Tipi lost!"
