Just got done making this coyote skin hat from a skin I collected last February. I think it looks rather handsome on Mike 'the coyote hunter'. His ruddy complexion and hair matches the reddish color on the coyote! Looks like he had a fitting shirt on too.. 'Evil inside'.. LOL.. guess he need not worry 'bout bad coyote mojo!

Thanks for the kind remarks folks.. It was a lot of work.. wished I'd have thinned that yote first! Might not have had to soften it TWICE. tricky coyotes.

Suppose this dude is coming back?? Oh well... I could just be softening this daing piebald deerskin that I've had in the works for freaking EVER is all.. wth! Anyway, you want to start out a coyote skin hat with a "softened" coyote skin.. prime is best! and this can be a feat in itself. Don't ask. I cut off it's head right off.. OMG.. all that work spent softening! and then I cut the legs off and stitched these lopped ends together forming a cup-like shape that basically just 'sits' loosely on the head. 'drape' hat. Anyway I'd plans to somehow line this hat with something. Lost my steam iron shape pattern for lining hats and decided to use a new baseball cap with an adjustable band in the back.. simply cut off the brim on the baseball cap. and stitched it in place. These pics are the 'before' I fashioned a fake head as no one wanted to volunteer theirs for this project of mine! Can't figure why not! Finally found a use for my once treasured pool cue It is kind of awkward and a bit intimidating cutting into this coyote skin that I found I had to resoften like TWICE! but managed to just guess and stitch and sew.. NOTHING by the book. just all freehand. to be continued......

I simply stitched the severed head back onto the modified to fit the head body The model head was pretty handy.. a real manikin head would have been much more pleasant to work with rather than a taped up bleach bottle ;D But don't laugh, it worked! I took a guess as to where to stitch the front legs back on as well.. one is slighty longer than the other! I've only done a few of these hats similarly to this one. Practice makes perfect, so undoubtedly, plenty of room for improvement. Not everyone looks good in a hat like this.. lol.. my son the terrible teen modeling.

Hello wolf1968! Welcome to the buck rub. I like to skin the critters right down to the toe nails for sure! I'm burnt out from working on TOO many coyotes! I'm not looking to buy or sell any, sorry.
