There's just something about mink- the classic luxury fur-I think they might be my favorite fur to tan. Might have to make a hat or something. I'd like to get enough done for a vest, but don't think I'll have enough until trapper season. These are all barktanned except for the gray fox. I picked up a road kill female mink the other day. Never did a summer one before, should be easy, but of course the fur is much shorter.

I finally have most of my coon done from last year..and two fox that were in the pickle forever...this was at a small show we went to. Didn't amount to much, but we met some interesting people.

Havent tried barktanning furs yet .Our mink are all but gone from here,used to be even back in the 70s and 80s when everybody and thier brother was trapping they were everywhere on every creek now the have vanished .I asked a state biologist and naturally he didnt want to tell me what happened but at the convention I haeared that the defoliant the timber companies spray on thier cutovers killed them -along with alot of other things but it apears mink are about the weakest link.Hate it I sure loved trapping them ,alot esier to pack out than a big boar coon .
