Just thought I'd give ya a peek at the knife I carry. I use it for just about everything. For smaller jobs, I keep this one handy Since I use 'em all the time, I didnt worry too much with prettying them up.

Cody, naw, they ain't spikes. Just have the 6"spike there for a size reference. The big one is made from 3 bars welded together Bearing race/304 stainless/bearingrace. the handle is a skeleton of 304 ss 1/2 round bar with a neoprene rubber insert.
Billy, that little one is a Nicholson file, with wallnut grips, and welded 304 stainless fittings.
I've cut down 4 inch oaks with the bigg'un.

My personal woods carry knife was an old Western Cutlery L66 sheath knife that seems to have grown a set of legs and walked off someplace. I really liked that old Western knife and the way the blade was shaped, made a good skinning knife.
I looked around for another one and found a few for sale on ebay, but decided to just buy myself a new knife and got a Marbles Woodcraft sheath knife from Smoky Mountain Knifeworks which has a blade designed just like my old knife did. I like it better than the old Western knife and the Marble's Woodcraft knife is still made in the good old USA, unlike some of the other brands that are made across the big pond. The day it came by UPS I tested it and shaved hair off my arm right out of the box. It's got one of the best looking leather holsters of any knife I have had before and I love the way the retainer strap surrounds the knife and holds it in position.

I understand the "feel naked". Since age 8, I have carried a knife, a must in the southwest US desert... I have learned to appreciate the versatility, and the nessesity of a knife in any survival situation. Anthropologists say that it is the ability to walk upright that made us human. Psychologists say it is the ability to think ahead and plan, that separates us from the animals. I think that it is the edge that gave us the edge. The sharp edge, is what gave us the ability to produce better tool for the intended purpose... It allowed us to eat a high energy diet, build shelters, process skins... I believe we owe our humanity to the knife.

A good looking , solid knife. It's patterened after a Marbles knife. A good belly for skinning.

The old Western L66 knife that I had, it's blade was shaped very much the same as the Marble's Woodcraft knife is, but the Western knife's blade was just a little longer.
Anyway, my new Marble's knife should last me the rest of my life and several other lifetimes of who gets it after me.
I just miss my old Western knife though because I had skinned a lot of deer with it.
