I set a snare line for beaver and I thought I would post some random pictures for now and later I will post more in some semblance of order. This is what I get to hike through wearing hip boots. Using snares in this manner I don't have to haul a heavy pack of big traps in. The hard part is when I catch a beaver or 2 and I have to pack them out through the willows. This is what makes the hike in worth it. I have been trapping/snaring this pond for over 10 years trapping/snaring 1 to 2 beaver per year. I could catch a lot more beaver then 1 or 2 per year but then I wouldn't have any beaver to trap in next year or the year after. This is the first snare set. The location I picked has a natural fencing to direct the beavers head into the snare. The beaver will be coming from the far side of the snare and won't see all the wire and cable. The snare loop is small and the bottom of sits about 2 inched under water. This narrow little run is exactly 1 inch deeper than my boots are tall. This is when you know beaver are here.

you really got me hankering for trapping season, we have another month before it opens here. great pictures, love the scenery. can't wait to see pictures of your catch.
it would seem that hip boots are never tall enough when you need them the most ;D
